Volkswagen T5 Camper

The T5 Camper came to us with a very short 12V operation, no 240V sockets and a requirement to run cooking applicances.

First part of the job was stripping out the old equipment including a tired 12V AGM battery, a 12V solar rectifier for the DC/DC connections and all defunct wiring.

The battery was replaced with a 12V battery with dimensions to fully sit under the driver’s seat.

The DC/DC converter was upgraded to a Renogy 40A unit to recharge the leisure battery while on the move.

To power the 240V side, a Renogy 2000W inverter mounted behind the drivers seat allows cooking applicances to draw power. The inverter switch was mounted beside the existing switch that activated the 12V system.

A 10A NOCO battery charger was fitted to enable the leisure battery to be recharged on site.

All 12V systems were fitted with fuses to ensure safety and monitored by a Renogy BT-1 Bluetooth module and app.

The system was tested extensively using a wide range of appliances.
